Karl Seitz, the founder of Conscious Building, has been designing and building custom, tasteful, eco-sensitive and financially responsible homes for over thirty years. He is a licensed General Contractor (#13221), has held a New Mexico Real Estate License, has a M.A. in counseling, a PhD. in History and is a Professional Certified Coach (Life/Business). His enjoyment of hands on work led him to work in construction as a laborer, carpenter, foreman, contractor, designer and developer.

While in college, Karl became fascinated with the question of how our values, ideals and beliefs are reflected in our creations. He spent a year in Europe studying the ways in which civilizations' cultural ideals were embodied in their architecture, art, city planning and handicrafts. This intellectual interest continued and found a concrete expression when he began to design and build custom homes. He was intent on incorporating his client's values into the design and creation of their home while also making their building experience as satisfying and enjoyable as possible.

By blending his desire to help people with his aesthetic sense Karl has created a balanced approach to design and building. His life experience and unique blend of skills enables him to address both the external and internal challenges of building not only with owners but also with all members of the building team -- architects, contractors, realtors, city inspectors and bankers.
